DECATUR, GA- DeKalb’s Chief Executive Officer Vernon Jones
hosted his 5th Annual CEO Santa event on Friday, December 21,
2007, at the Gresham Recreational Center World. Renowned
actor and comedian Chris Tucker made a surprise appearance to
the 100 underprivileged youth in attendance at the holiday event.
“In DeKalb County, we understand the importance of reaching out
to the community especially during this season of giving,” CEO
Jones said. “Each family deserves to have a holiday filled with
special memories and we hope this experience will help spread a
little Christmas cheer.”
The Office of Child Advocacy and The Office of Community
Relations spearhead each year’s efforts by identifying children
formerly in foster care system and collecting gifts from various
county departments and businesses throughout the metro area.
“I am excited to come home and make a difference in the lives of
our youth,” said Tucker who now resides in Los Angeles. “There’s
nothing more important during this holiday season than giving to
those in need and making a positive impact in someone’s life.”
For the past three years, The Chris Tucker Foundation has
provided assistance to hundreds of underprivileged youth during
the Christmas season. The foundation’s Christmas efforts also
include assisting more than 200 youth at two Atlanta area Boys &
Girls clubs. Sponsors for this year’s events include: Bishop Eddie
L. Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, The Mall at
Stonecrest, The Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. Foundation, Suite 20
Salon, Atlanta Peach Movers and more.
