On Tuesday, September 15, 2009, Theatre of the Stars welcomed
"Oprah Winfrey Presents The Color Purple." The musical about
love made its way back to Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theater, this time
featuring critically acclaimed artist,
Fantasia Barrino (American
Idol Season 3 winner).  Having made her debut on Broadway
nearly three years ago, with rave reviews from multiple critics,
Barrino is now bringing her extraordinary performance to Atlanta
and parts of the nation.  In her role as Celie, Barrino proves her
multi-talented self by not only presenting her sensational voice, but
also her phenomenal ability to act.

Set between 1909 and 1949, The Color Purple is a story filled with
love, forgiveness and hope.  With its origin as a novel by Alice
Walker, The Color Purple is the unforgettable and inspiring story of
Celie, who finds strength to triumph over adversity and discover
her unique voice in the world.  With a GRAMMY ® - nominated
score featuring gospel, jazz, pop and the blues, the musical will
have you singing and dancing in your seat.

This joyous play brings the storyline of the 1985 film to stage with a
modern flair that you don’t want to miss.  Singing such songs as
“Somebody Gonna Love You” and “I’m Here”, Barrino engages the
audience with her distinct musical voice.  Making it even more
enjoyable, the entire cast sang, danced and acted their hearts out
to no end throughout the play.

Whether you have read the book, seen the movie or are new to The
Color Purple scene, this smashing musical is a must see.  In
Atlanta through Sunday, September 27 and now nearing its third
season run, The Color Purple is scheduled in theaters around the
U.S. for its 2009-2010 season.
