Some of America's finest came out to witness the 16th Annual
Trumpet Awards, held in Atlanta, GA in January. The biggest and
brightest of Trumpet Awards Honorees received the 2008 respected
Trumpet Award and joined the list of some of the most noteworthy
personalities in this nation and abroad.

Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson
Jackson
, the Trumpet Awards honor African-American achievement
in many fields of endeavor including medicine, law, politics, public
service and entertainment.

Greeting guests and honorees was Red Carpet host
April Woodard.
Ms. Woodard is currently a correspondent for "Inside Edition."

This year's honorees included:
Shareef Abdur-Rahim (NBA) & Chris “Ludacris” Bridges – the
Usher Raymond Altruism Award
Halle Berry – Entertainment & Pinnacle Award

Presenters for the Trumpet Awards were Hill Harper, G. Garvin,
Reverend Jesse Jackson, Elder Bernice King, Dexter King, Martin
Luther King, III, Dawn Lewis, Judge Hatchett, Congressman John
Lewis, Jeff Majors, Victoria Rowell, Frank Ski, Congresswoman
Maxine Waters, Pastor Paula White, Usher Raymond, Jermaine
Dupri, Mayor Shirley Franklin, and Ambassador Andrew Young.

Performers included India.Arie, Angie Stone, Lalah Hathaway, Mike
Phillips, Marcus Johnson, Peabo Bryson, Keith Sweat, Melving
Williams, and Earnie Hudson.

Other special guests were Tom Joyner, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Richard
Roundtree, Ovie Mughelli, Lou Gossett, Dick Gregory, Chris Tucker,
and many more.

This year’s event also included the “Tower-of-Power” Awards
presented to an amazing and dedicated group of elected officials and
public servants.

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a major producer of entertainment
products around the world and the leading provider of programming
for the basic cable industry, was the presenting sponsor of the event.  

One of the featured events was the induction ceremony of the 2008
International Civil Rights Walk of Fame which was held at Ebenezer
Baptist Church.  

Xernona Clayton, the creative force behind the first TRUMPET
AWARDS in 1993, is the founder, president and CEO of the Trumpet
Awards Foundation, Inc.  She serves as the executive producer for the
annual event.

The television broadcast of the Trumpet Awards is going into
syndication this year. The first airing was on March 3rd, followed by TV
One on Sunday, April 13th at 8:00 p.m.Click

During a press conference, Sheryl Lee Ralph gave
her advice to aspiring actors. "Talent alone will not
cut it!," says Ralph.
