El DeBarge, Idris Elba, Carl Thomas &
Isley Brothers Spark Chastain Park Ampitheatre!!
by Kim Ford
9.6.11 - If you were in Atlanta over the 2011 Labor Day Weekend, Chastain Park
Amphitheatre was the place to be.

“The Reunion Concert” featuring the
Isley Brothers, El Debarge, Chico Debarge,
races for a high-energy evening of classic hits.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Real Housewives Phaedra Parks and Kandi, and
Jasmine Guy were among many who came out with their picnic baskets, flowers, food
and candles to groove under the stars.

Many of you may be asking, "Why is a faith-based mag covering this concert?" Married
saints...I hope you have some El Debarge, Carl Thomas, Isley Brothers or something in
your bedroom collection. Or maybe you listen to Shirley Ceasar when you and your
spouse...nevermind.

Listening to lyrics by El DeBarge like "Don't go, don't go, I love you so" and Ron Isley's
"In Between the Sheets" just may be the therapy some of you need.

Carl Thomas was first on deck. He performed his hits "Emotional", "Summer Rain", and " I Wish I
Never Met Her”.  This brother can still sing. Look out for his new cd "Conquer" dropping this Fall.
Ron Isley wooed the crowd in a velvet blazer and his infamous gold cane. He performed classics
like “At Your Best (You Are Love)", “For the Love of You”, "Between The Sheets" and many more.
He took the crowd to church when he covered Jonathan Butler’s hit, “Falling in Love with Jesus”.
Chico DeBarge made a cameo during his brother's set. They sang his hit "Iggin Me."
El DeBarge still sounds just like 1986. Perfect vocals. He performed hits like "Stay With Me", "I Call
Your Name”, "Time Will Reveal", and his newly released "Second Chance".
These ladies screamed for El like Justin Beiber fans!
Better than Ron Isley's set, was Idris Elba's British accent! The crowd went craaaazy when he
walked on stage. He was promoted as the host of the show, but arrived during the last song of the
show. Who cares. We still were thrilled to see him!
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed clearly enjoyed the show.
Jasmine Guy also came out.
Backstage: El, Kandi, Chico, Phaedra and her husband Apollo pose for a quick pic.
"One of the greatest things is having my brother with me on the
road." - El
El Debarge and I after our interview backstage. A childhood dream! The most
relevant part of his come back: "God's grace. He allowed me to have a second
chance."
