Commitment is the mark of character and integrity. My interpretation from
Proverbs 28: 6 is that integrity is more valuable than riches. A person that
exhibits the qualities of commitment, will enjoy life more distinctly, even more
so than the rich.
Most people consider commitment to be linked to romantic relationships. But,
we are committed to several entities in our lives including; church, family,
jobs, school, friends, hobbies and activities. We have to be able to make a
distinction between the different areas of commitment in our lives, ultimately
creating a balance, which becomes more beneficial for us.
I have a philosophy centered on the importance of commitment, not just in
romantic relationships but all entities. Your pattern or commitment standards
are intertwined with each other. Meaning that, your commitment to your job
affects your commitment to school, your partner, friends, relatives, etc. This
creates a link between all entities that you are committed to.
If there’s something going wrong in one area of your life, it is quite possible
that other areas will be affected as well. I remember when I was having
family issues, my academics suffered. I wasn’t able to truly focus on school
because so much was going on back home. From this, I learned that being
truly committed to multiple things is tough, at times, impossible. In the end,
what is most valuable to you will take precedence.
This is why understanding the value of commitment is so important. Creating
a balance between everything you are involved with can be vey challenging.
Again, it all boils down to what is most important to you. Ultimately, this is why
I wrote my debut book, The Truth behind a Lie: The Road to Commitment. It
presents an inspirational self-help guide in story form— one that will help
you to focus on the important things in life: your soul and your family.
People often ask me how did I come up with the title for the book. I tell them,
until you find God, who is THE TRUTH, you will always live BEHIND
falsehood, which is a LIE. These falsehoods could be our jobs, social status,
relationships, money etc. Anything that distracts you from your relationship
with God becomes a falsehood. I hope each reader can learn the value of
commitment and its link to character and integrity. While writing the book, I
experienced a tremendous amount of growth and development. I learned
how important your relationships with people are, especially family
members. I also learned how valuable your life experiences are in molding
who you are. I was battling family issues again, but this time I seen how the
separation from my family was bringing more pain than gain.
Often times, we remove things from our lives in hopes of progressing, but
God placed it there for a reason. Without God's gifts, we aren’t going to
progress in any shape or fashion. That is why we must be mindful of the
decisions we make because they could have a lasting effect on us, and
others as well. My book showed me that I needed to make improvements in
my relationships with my family and future romantic partner(s) so that I could
progress in life. I learned how to appreciate the people in my life even
though we may not physically see each other.
Although distance may separate you, your values will keep you connected.
My mission is to spread the word of God, positivity, and help others stimulate
growth and development in their lives. This is why I founded Creative
Reason. It's an avenue for self-help and personal development. The
mission is to serve the community and wholeheartedly lead people to
personal development and inspire them to fulfill their dreams. Through
inspiration, my hope is to lead people to live better lives.
